R. MARSHALL JOHNSON
A violinist with the North Carolina Symphony since 1975, Marshall Johnson received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, where he studied with Paul Rolland and Endre Granat, and did graduate work at the Catholic University of America, where he studied with Robert Gerle and William Steck.
Johnson’s orchestral career began with Spokane Symphony Orchestra. He has also been a member of the Champaign-Urbana Civic Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony, the United States Air Force Symphony ( where he was a member of the internationally heralded Strolling Strings ) and the Air Force Chamber Orchestra.
He has performed with the North Carolina Chamber Players, the National Opera Company, the Santa Fe Opera, and was principal second violin at the Cullowhee Music Festival. In 1978 and 1980, Johnson appeared as soloist with the North Carolina Symphony Chamber Orchestra. Since 1984, he has been a member of the Primavera String Quartet, formerly the North Carolina Symphony String Quartet.
