The North Carolina Symphony Ends the Summerfest Season with Spectacular Russian Masterpieces

	Resident Conductor William Henry Curry and the North Carolina Symphony will finish their 2009 Summerfest Season at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 18 at 7:30pm with program of powerful works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and other great Russian composers. Guest artist Valentina Lisitsa will be featured soloist in Rachmaninoff’s enduringly popular Concerto No. 2 in C minor. Described by critics as an “electrifying pianist” and one who plays like a “bona fide angel,” the Ukrainian-born Lisitsa has been receiving rave reviews since making her Mostly Mozart Festival debut at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. Ms. Lisitsa is at home in vast repertoire ranging from Bach and Mozart to Shostakovich and Bernstein. Her orchestral repertory boasts more than forty concerti, but she has a special affinity for Rachmaninoff. She is well-known for her highly individual and fearless approach to every work she performs. Born in Kiev, she is now a U.S. citizen who makes her home in New Bern, North Carolina. Also featured on the program are Tchaikovsky’s March miniature, Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila and more.
