Special Event: The Wizard of Oz Dates: November 23-24, 2012 Featuring: Program: Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Meymandi Concert Hall this Thanksgiving weekend for The Wizard of Oz, the movie classic on a giant screen with the North Carolina Symphony performing the soundtrack live. Special Event: North Carolina Symphony Brass Quintet Date: March 10, 2013 Featuring: Program: Members of the North Carolina Symphony Brass Quintet will offer a program of music from the American Revolution and the Civil War, as well as favorite tunes of the ragtime era. The Garner Magnet High School Brass Quintet will also perform, beginning at 2:30pm. This concert is free and open to the public. No ticket is required. Quintet members are Paul Randall, trumpet; Timothy Stewart, trumpet; Rebekah Daley, horn; John Ilika, trombone; and David Lewis, tuba. Special Event: LeAnn Rimes Date: May 30, 2013 Featuring: Program: Two-time Grammy Award-winner LeAnn Rimes joins the Symphony to perform the songs that made her legendary. She has been a star since the age of 13, when her 1996 breakthrough hit “Blue” pushed to the Top 10 on country charts. She is also known for hits such as “How Do I Live” and “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” among many others. |

Special Event: Symphonic Mashup: The Music of Radiohead Meets Brahms Date: June 05, 2013 Featuring: Program: Music from Radiohead's landmark album OK Computer meets Brahms First Symphony when the North Carolina Symphony performs this new mashup created by conductor Steve Hackman. And, Ari Picker and Emma Nadeau of the Chapel Hill-based band Lost in the Trees open the concert. Come early and enjoy a food truck rodeo before experiencing this amazing musical event! Special Event: Video Games Live Date: June 07, 2013 Featuring: Program: Music from the greatest video games of all time performed live with the North Carolina Symphony, featuring Mario, Zelda, Halo, Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Sonic, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros., Skyrim, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and many more, including the Classic Arcade Medley and the Tetris Opera! Described by the Washington Post as “ingenious and fantastic,” and “a feast for the eyes and ears,” by the Seattle Times, Video Games Live is an award winning concert event that features beautiful symphonic arrangements of music from the most popular video games of all time, along with synchronized video footage on three giant screens, plus lighting and electronic percussion. Special Event: Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes Date: June 20, 2013 Featuring: Program: A new symphonic project celebrating American musical icon Jerry Garcia. This ground-breaking orchestral adventure features Garcia's storied original compositions as well as classic interpretations of timeless standards that were hallmarks of Garcia and the Grateful Dead's shows. Renowned vocalist/guitarist Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule, The Dead) collaborates with the symphony, lending his soul-soaked, introspective blend of rock, blues, R&B and jazz to Garcia's masterworks.
