Connections from NCSU to NC Symphony
From a recent Arts NC State Newsletter: As part of NCSU's 125th anniversary this year, the NCSU Wind Ensemble will perform a piece composed by an original member of the May 1932 NCS orchestra.
The piece had been assumed lost in the 1965 Pullen Hall fire, a blaze that destroyed almost everything owned by NC State’s Music Department.
“Of Earth and Atom” was composed in 1961 by M. Thomas Cousins, a founding member of the North Carolina Symphony, to commemorate NC State 75th anniversary. As it turns out, the original composer’s score was safely stored in the archives at D.H. Hill Library.
