Who's Got Charisma?
Writing in The New York Times, Zachary Woolfe muses on the notion of charisma—what it is and who’s got it. “It’s a term used a lot,” he says, “but one too often skimmed over. When an artist is described as charismatic, I know what’s meant. You know what’s meant. But what is meant?”

Yo Yo Ma! Seeing him perform with the NCSO at Meymandi Hall a few years ago was simply an amazing experience. Beyond just being incredibly talented, he exudes a charm and passion that is so compelling and makes you feel like you are a part of what is happening on stage. Now THAT'S charisma!

Demondrae Thurman- euphonium. He can have an audience eating out if the palm of his hand.

Chris Botti. Just one Botti concert and you will see what a passionate, talented, and hard-working artist he is! He respects his audience and those performing on stage with him, so nothing but the best will do. He is the whole package, and this keeps fans coming back time after time.

Several years ago, pianist Joanna MacGregor joined the orchestra in performing the Gershwin piano concerto. She connected with the audience wonderfully and seemed to enjoy playing the piece as much as we enjoyed hearing it. Before the concert, I was not familiar with either her or the piece, but despite having no preconceived expectations, I remember it as a highlight of the season.
