A Terry Mizesko World Premiere

North Carolina Symphony audiences love bass trombonist Terry Mizesko’s music. We thought you would like to know about the upcoming world premiere of Terry’s latest work:

ICE COUNTERPOINT—ENCOUNTERS IN ANTARCTICA AND THE ARCTIC, featuring photography by Brooks de Wetter-Smith and paintings by Nerys Levy, is on exhibition through May 31, 2010 at the FedEx Global Education Center at UNC-Chapel Hill.

On Tuesday, February 23 at 7pm, the Center will present the world premiere of a composition by North Carolina Symphony bass trombonist and composer Terry Mizesko, along with de Wetter-Smith’s photography and videography.

The 34-minute multi-media composition, scored for flute, viola, soprano and harp, is inspired by de Witter-Smith’s images of the Arctic taken during a July 2009 trip. As each section of the five-movement piece was completed, de Witter-Smith, using state of the art computer videography created specific images to complement the music.

Performers include Brooks de Witter-Smith, flute; Jonathan Bagg, viola; Jacqueline Bartlett, harp; and Florence Peacock, soprano.

A reception and art-viewing will follow the performance.
