Wilmington concert postponed

Due to possible travel conditions, Saturday night's concert at Kenan Auditorium in Wilmington has been postponed.  A replacement concert will be performed Tuesday, April 6, at 8:00pm, Grant Llewellyn conducting.  Tickets for the postponed concert will be honored on April 6.  For additional information, ticketholders may contact the Symphony or UNC-Wilmington box office on Monday.

Michael Westerling's Gravatar This concert should not have been canceled. Weather was not that bad. Had friend fly in from Boston Mass. to attend and we were devistated to get there and see the note posted of the cancellation.

North Carolina Symphony Staff's Gravatar We are very, very sorry for the inconvenience and the disappointment. These are very difficult decisions to make, and because of the lead time required, we typically have to rely on information as of about 10 in the morning. In this case, at 10am the weather sites and news sites were still warning of the possibility of road refreezing after sundown. Safety of the audience and the orchestra is always our top priority and felt that postponing was the best decision at the time. Clearly, by mid- to late-afternoon, that decision was unfortunate, as from Raleigh to Wilmington roads had not only cleared but dried. We're very disappointed to have needlessly postponed the concert but, again, had only the best available information at the time to rely on. While we cannot undo the inconvenience especially for your Boston-based friend, we do offer our sincere apologies and hope that you will call our audience service department at 877.627.6724; we would be pleased to accommodate you at a future performance as our guests.

Jenny Spruill's Gravatar What happened to the idea of emailing the information on the cancelled concert in Wilmington Saturday night? We are annual subscribers and you have our email address as we often get email from you. We were just about ready to walk out the door to go to the concert when a friend called about the cancellation.

North Carolina Symphony Staff's Gravatar We understand your frustration. Because the concert was on a Saturday, we didn't have as many tools at our ready disposal as we should have. But your point is a good one, and we will learn from this experience as best we can. The situation in Wilmington is additionally complicated because of the third-party involvement of the UNCW box office as sales agent; nonetheless, your observation is very valid. We do post up-to-the-minute information on the ncsymphony.org website and always encourage patrons to check there before heading out, but even that is an imperfect system. We do apologize for the inconvenience that Saturday's postponed caused.

judy smith's Gravatar We are frequent attendees to NC Symphony performances in Wilmington and were also disappointed at the concert's cancellation last weekend although we do understand how those decisions must be made in advance.

Our issue is that we requested a refund for our 2 tickets and have not been able to get either NC Symphony box office or Kenan Auditorium to credit our Visa account We will be out of the country for the rescheduled concert and want to clear this matter up before leaving .
It is unfair to hold our money in escrow while the UNCW, Kenan Auditorium and the NC Symphony settle their business matters. I called both places and went personally to Kenan 's box office and was told they could not do any thing until their list was all checked off of those wanting refunds. The deadline for that ,as I was told, is April 7 which is after the rescheduled concert. This is unacceptable and leaves a bad impression for us even though we'd like to support the NC Symphony and its great music.
Our next move will be to have Visa deal with it but would like the satisfaction of knowing that the symphony or Kenan Auditorium had more people- friendly policies regarding cancellations which were not of our making. The person I spoke with at the NC Symphony box office on 2/17 promised to let me know what the outcome of this would be but did not call back, again leaving a bad impression in my mind regarding the business end of the whole operation. North Carolina Symphony Staff's Gravatar Ms. Smith: as noted to the previous writer, the fact that this all involves a third-party box office at UNCW made this much more complicated and troublesome for our audience than it should have been, and we are working to address not only the immediate issues for our customers but the broader issues of selling tickets through a third party. I understand that you and our audience services team have been in contact yesterday and today and I hope you'll call us again at 919.733.2750 if anything isn't resolved to your satisfaction. We appreciate your support!
